Secondary Schools


Gate National High School
Last January 31, 1998 was created.
The parcel of land contained an area of 8,000 square meter taken from the whole area 260,422 square meter.
It was June 1998 when GNHS started its educational operation.
The first operation started at the total of 67 students wherein these students were squatted at Gate Elementary School.




It was only the year 1999 when the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce donated a two-room building to house these siblings who wanted to gain knowledge from this existing world and behind.

Louella G. Alcoba National High School
Located at San Isidro, Bulan, Sorsogon.
It has a land area of 10,000 square meter.
The school began in the year 1980 an annexed and occupying the San Isidro Elementary School Site and named as San Isidro Barangay High School.
It opened with 81 first year students and 1984 was its maiden graduation.


In 1989-1990 was the first year launching of the Secondary Education Program and it became a newly nationalized high schools.





Butag NHS formerly Don Antonio Escedero School of fisheries, then later became Butag SOF was established due to the clamor of the concerned people of Butag who was Spearheaded by Dr. Ramon G. Sy Jr. and was supported by some barangay councilor namely Cesar Gutierrez, Noel Gestiada, Jose Gutlay, Ruby Que and Rogelio Mmiraflor.

Butag NHS formerly Don Antonio Escedero School of fisheries, then later became Butag SOF was established due to the clamor of the concerned people of Butag who was Spearheaded by Dr. Ramon G. Sy Jr. and was supported by some barangay councilor namely Cesar Gutierrez, Noel Gestiada, Jose Gutlay, Ruby Que and Rogelio Mmiraflor. It is 12 km away from the town of Bulan. There are 7 academic classrooms.

Faustino G. Glua High School
The FGGHS was founded on June 7,1996 and had been one of the newest additional High School. Located at Barangay Otavi, Bulan, Sorsogon, suited by Mr. Cicero Glua of the same barangay who happened to be an elementary teacher. The name of the school derived from the name of the late father of Mr. Cicero Glua the donor of the school site and to handle the newly established school.

It is manage by Mrs. Naida D. Dipad as Teacher-in-Charge appointed by the School Division. 

Butag National High School

June 1999, when DAESF started its first  year operation which was headed by Dr. Danilo E. DespiThe school is loccated at the hilltop of Sitio Angas in Brgy. Butag, Bulan, Sorsogon with a total land area of 10,000 q. meter.

Bulan National High School
Begun on the 26th day of July, 1993, which lapsed into law without the signature of the President on June 30,1994. The creation of BNHS was the result of the integration of the Bulan Vocational High School into Sorsogon State College. Mrs. Gemma L. Carpio is the Teacher in Charge and became the first administrator.

The following school year 1996-1997,  BNHS transferred to its new site.
















The first year operation started in the school year 1995-1996 under the supervision of he 41 teacher.

Danao National High School






On July 9,1981,Danao Barangay High School started its operation officially using a two-room building constructed on the site of Danao Elementary School. This building intended for high school use was erected through the effort of same people behind the foundation of the school




In  1983,the Baranggay  and PTA Officials convince the late Benis Morano and his family to donate a lot where the high school could stand for good.

THE SLI KRAMS

It was the year 1924 when a young man of Bulan, Sorsogon who has just graduated from the College of Commerce, University of the Philippines(UP) thought of the ordeal and travail he has to undertake in order to finish his Secondary and Tertiary  education successfully from among the many talented young men and women of Bulan.
This young man is the late KENERINO RAMIREZ ASUNCION(KRA), who after realizing that the only way he could assist the other young men and women of Bulan acquire tertiary education and contribute to their well-being is to make available in the town of Bulan. Thus, the SOUTHERN LUZON INSTITUTE (SLI) was born. Viewed from the chronicles, SLI is now  72 years old. But from the point of view of the students and graduates, SLI’s age  today  is a matter of opinion because age is always a controversial issue when viewed from different angles.

The Brief History of Bulan

o The town of Bulan has a colorful and dramatic history which dates back to the pre-Hispanic period. Legend, however, surrounds the name of Bulan.
o The term “Bulan” has several meaning, it may month of the year or the moon or a luminary.
o According to a local historian, the great Valerio Zuñiga, the last meaning, taken in its truest intrinsic sense.  
oThe more accepted term due to the historical fact narrated by the “mga gurangan”, the oldinhabatants of the town.
o Historical records disclose that in 1569, an expedition led by Captain Luis Enriquez De Guzman and Fray Alonso Jimenez,  Augustinian Friar, reachd Sorsogon soil and found a small settlement of natives engaged in fishing and farming.

oOne of the oldest settlements of Luzon and considered the first site of habitation in southern Luzon hundreds of years before the coming of the Spaniards.
o In the early part of the 17th century, sometime in 1610 during the Spanish conquests of Sorsogon.
o Otavi was made by the Spaniards as a refueling port for Spanish galleons that pass on their way to Acapulco, Mexico.


o There is no record however when Otavi became a duly constituted barrio of Bulan.
o Otavi fiesta is held every August 28.

GATE


o it is older than the municipal of Bulan itself.

o It was organized as a barrio under the old “pueblo” of Bulusan by the Franciscans in the year 1646.

o In 1901, the barrio was burned by the Americans when fanatics headed by a “Santa Torib” ambushed the American Soldiers.

o After he Moro raid in 1746, the town was totally deserted. 


oThe barrio Gate  is 12 km from the poblacion, along the National Highway. It is bounded on the north by the barrio of Padre Diaz, on the south by Taromata, on the east by Sta. Teresita and on the west by San Isidro.

oIts traditional  barrio fiesta on May 19, with San Jose as its Patron Saint

SAN JUAN BAGO



o In 1801, when the town of Bulan was refounded in Binuang-daan, the village in San Juan Daan was declared a Barangay or district of Bulan by Padre Manuel Bernardo and named San Juan.

o The barrio San Juan was bounded on the north by Abad Santos, formerly called Cambal, on the South by Fabrica, on the west by Beguin.

o it is accessible by land transportation which is about 5 km from the poblacion and about 2 km from Fabrica on the provincial road.


oThe present site of San Juan Bago, so it could be stated hat the new barrio of San Juan was organized in 1883.

o During the Spanish regime, the barrio people learned how to read and write from Maestro Pedro Guban.
o San Juan Bago clebrates its traditional barrio fiesta on June 24th with San Juan Bautista as its Patron Saint.

o This old bell is dated 1888 and was donated by Gobernadorcillo Rufino Gerona to the people of San Juan Bago. It is found in the chapel.
